Tongue/lip tie or “ankyloglossia” occurs when the lingual or labial frenulum is too tight, too short, or too thick. The lingual frenulum is the small band of tissue that connects the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth and the labial frenulum can be found above  It can wreak havoc on breastfeeding, starting solids, head shape, jaw growth, sleep, breathing, and much more as children transitions to adults. Unfortunately, you cannot out grow a tongue or lip tie.
