Feeding and Swallowing Services

Lingua provides feeding and swallowing support from infancy through adulthood, addressing everything from bottle refusal,  picky eating, to ARFID and dysphagia. Our clinicians also work with individuals experiencing swallowing changes related to illness, injury, or head and neck cancer. We focus on safety, comfort, and confidence at every age, creating individualized plans that make mealtimes more successful and less stressful.

Infant Feeding

Feeding in the first year can feel overwhelming, especially when babies struggle with latch, bottles, breathing, or weight gain. We help you understand what’s going on and create a plan that supports safer, calmer, more connected feeding. From breast and bottle challenges to reflux, congestion, and oral‑motor delays, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Our infant‑feeding team is uniquely qualified because our clinicians are not only IBCLCs and CLCs, but also licensed speech‑language pathologists with advanced training in the anatomy and physiology of swallowing—expertise that includes the ability, under SLP licensure, to interpret diagnostic imaging such as MBS and FEES.

Toddler Feeding

Toddlers often bring big opinions to the table — and sometimes big challenges. Whether you’re navigating picky eating, mealtime battles, texture refusals, or lingering oral‑motor concerns, we help you understand the “why” behind the struggle and build a plan that supports confident, joyful eating

Many toddlers who struggle with eating aren’t “picky” — they’re working with decreased oral‑motor stability, limited chewing strength, or patterns that were never fully supported in infancy. We often see little ones whose tongue ties were missed or whose early feeding challenges were brushed off, leaving them without the help they needed during those foundational months. Our team looks at the whole picture and builds a plan that supports safer chewing, confident eating, and calmer mealtimes for the whole family.

Avoidant Restrictive Intake Food Disorder (ARFID)

For children, teens, and adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or fearful around food, we offer compassionate, evidence‑based support that honors both the emotional and sensory experience of eating. Our work focuses on expanding safe foods, reducing mealtime stress, and rebuilding trust with eating at a pace that feels respectful and sustainable.

Because ARFID is a complex condition that touches the body, brain, and nervous system, we believe strongly in a collaborative approach. Research consistently shows that outcomes improve when feeding therapy is paired with mental health support. Together, we create a comprehensive plan that supports long‑term progress and a healthier, more confident relationship with food.

Feeding challenges can show up at any age, and our team is here to support families from the very beginning through adulthood. As someone who grew up in an Italian family—with a Nonna who never served a small portion and believed food was love—I know deeply that mealtime is more than nutrition. It’s connection, comfort, and the moments we share around the table. We help infants with early feeding difficulties, babies learning to start solids, and children navigating picky eating, sensory aversions, or ARFID‑related concerns, always honoring the emotional side of feeding as much as the functional skills.

We also provide comprehensive swallowing support for adults experiencing dysphagia, changes after illness or injury, and swallowing difficulties related to head and neck cancer. Our approach blends oral‑motor skill development, sensory support, and functional mealtime strategies to make eating safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable—so individuals and families can return to the experiences that make food meaningful.

If you or your child are struggling with feeding or swallowing at any stage, we’re here to help. Book an evaluation to receive personalized, compassionate support that honors both the science of feeding and the heart behind it.

P.s. Caring for feeding across the lifespan is deeply personal to founder, Chelsea. After developing significant food allergies as a teenager, she experienced firsthand how confusing, isolating, and overwhelming feeding challenges can be. This is why the practice takes such pride in coaching families to introduce top allergens before 12 months and supporting safe feeding practices (including keeping rice cereal out of bottles). On the flip side, the majority of Chelsea's experience before Lingua has been supporting dysphagia manually with the power of touch— especially those recovering from head and neck cancer. These experiences fuel Chelsea’s commitment to ensuring that every person, at every stage of life, has access to safe, joyful, and meaningful mealtimes.
